World Heavy Oil Conference 2009
Overcoming extraordinary challenges, Nexus produced the world's largest gathering of heavy oil professionals in Margarita Island, Venezuela. The event took place under one of the largest temporary structures ever erected in Latin America, after an eleventh-hour chage of venue mandated by Venezuelan authorities. Over a thousand delegates from more than 20 countries attended the conference, by all accounts a great success.
The 2009 Business and Technical Conference of the World Heavy Oil Congress (WHOC) had been originally planned for Puerto La Cruz, where Nexus had already set up the largest temporary structure ever erected in Venezuela, a tent 45 meters wide by 90 meters long supported by a metal frame.
Venezuelan authorities decided to change the venue to the Hilton Margarita hotel with scarcely a week to go for opening day. Rising to the challenge, Nexus built a new structure in Margarita and transferred the whole event there, including the rescheduling of dozens of talks, numerous audiovisual presentations, meals, and entertainment events in addition to the staging of the the exhibiton area, where the participants, including companies like Chevron, BP, Statoil, the Government of Alberta, Canada, and PDVSA, the Venezuelan oil company, displayed their booths, 20 of them also created by Nexus.
